What is an Emergency?

Gas leaks, odor of gas, damaged lines, carbon monoxide symptoms and water main breaks are all considered emergencies.

If you smell gas, do not attempt to locate the leak. Instead, leave the house or building right away. Do not use any electrical switches, appliances, lights, telephones, or mobile devices, as an electrical charge could create a spark. When you are in a safe place, call M.U.D.'s emergency hotline at 402.554.7777 or 9-1-1.

If someone is showing symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, call 9-1-1 immediately. Symptoms are like the flu.

More than a million dollars in CARES Act utility assistance funds still available for those in need

Metropolitan Utilities District customers who need help paying their gas and water bills due to COVID-19 impacts, can apply for utility assistance from a federally funded program. Customers in other counties can still apply for assistance through a state-funded program or the District’s Home Fund.

On Tuesday, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted to increase the maximum amount from $750 to $1,200 per household for utility assistance through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which in July awarded $4 million in funds to assist M.U.D. and OPPD customers.

Funding is administered through Dollar Energy Fund and local agencies. Customers may apply for assistance through a secure online portal at: dollarenergy.org/MyApp/.

Those who need help through the application process may contact a partner agency or call 1.888.650.9132 to hear a list of the partnering agencies.

M.U.D. customers are encouraged to visit mudomaha.com/covid19relief for more information, including eligibility guidelines, documentation requirements and additional utility assistance programs.

The cut-off date to accept applications is anticipated to be on or around December 15, 2020, so customers are encouraged to apply now.
