Record-breaking Event Boosts Funding for Assistance Programs

For the second year in a row, records were broken at the annual Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth. In its 18th year, a record 1,100 people registered for the event. More than $226,000 was raised through registration, donations and sponsorships, with 100% of proceeds benefiting utility assistance programs for M.U.D. and Omaha Public Power District customers. An estimated 250 households will benefit from the funds raised.

Senior Vice President and General Counsel Mark Mendenhall and his wife, Bridget, co-chaired the event alongside OPPD’s board director Eric Williams and his partner, Kristine Hull.

Mark said, “My wife and I were honored to serve as co-chairs for this year’s record-breaking event. All the funds raised stay in the Omaha metro, and it was rewarding to see our community come together to support such an important cause.”

In 2024, M.U.D.’s utility assistance program, the Home Fund, provided $350,194 in utility assistance to 945 households.
