Know What’s Below — Dig Safely with 811. Did you know more than half of reported natural gas incidents are caused by people who dig before utility lines are marked? We are raising awareness for safe digging by celebrating National 811 Day on August 11. If you’re planning a digging project — from gardening and planting trees to installing a fence, sprinkler system or patio — you are required by state law to contact 811 at least two business days in advance to have utilities located.
